Activities in and Around San Quintin
San Quintin lies in one of Baja’s largest agricultural areas. The town is surrounded by tomato farms, wonderful beaches and three impressive bays.
The areas around the bays, as well as on the long sandy beach in front of the hotel, are excellent for giant pismo clam digging during low tide.
Sport fishing in the bay is very good. Typically halibut, mackerel, perch, and croaker are readily available in the bays. Yellowtail, yellow fin, sea bass, rock cod, link cod, and sometimes dorado can be found in the open sea especially in the area of San Martin Island to the north of San Quintin. Boat rentals can be arranged Through the hotels front desk or near the launch ramp on the bay next to the Old Mill Restaurant.
In addition to clam digging, at the hotel you can enjoy the 10 mile-long stretch of sandy beach great for walking, running, swimming, combing for sea shells, sand dollars and surf fishing.
The bays and marshes south of town offer some of the best bird watching on the Baja Peninsula. A large variety of birds and enjoyable climate ad to the fun. Kayaking in the bays is a pleasant experience as well because of the calm waters, especially in the inner bays. Ocean kayaking and wave riding is good south of the bays or in front of the hotel, with easy launching over the sand.
Good surfing can sometimes be found at the beach break at Picacho, north of the bays, and at the point break at the end of the San Quintin peninsula. The hotel’s beach is also excellent for kite-surfing
South of San Quintin at K 21 there are many miles on sand dunes, stretching from the highway west to the ocean.
Dirt bikes, sand rails, and dune buggies will have a great time exploring this beautiful coastal area.
